‘Twas the Night before Jesus
‘Twas the night before Jesus, and all through the house
Not a person was praying, not even my spouse.
The bibles were laid on the shelf without care
In hope that no one would see them lie there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed
Not once ever kneeling or bowing their heads.
And mom in her rocker with babe on her lap
Was listening to the radio while I took a nap.
When out of the east there arose such a clatter
I sprang to my feet to see what’s the matter.
I ran to the window in such a mad dash
Torn open the shutters and threw up the sash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be the day!
The light of His being made me cover my face
It was Jesus returning in all glory and grace.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life, which He held in His hand
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name
When He said, “It’s not here,” my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered together for His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without sound
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late
I had waited too long, thus sealing my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight
Oh, if only I had been ready tonight.
In the words of this story the meaning is clear
The coming of Jesus is drawing so near.
There’s only one life, and when comes the last call
We’ll all find the Bible was true after all.
So, in this season of give and take
Just don’t sit around, but partake
In the birthday celebration of our Christ
Who gave His life, a loving sacrifice.
So, if you have heard this story today
And felt in your heart that you should say
“Forgive me, dear Jesus, for what I have done,”
The Father will send you His only begotten son.
For you need only confess with your mouth through your heart
That Jesus is Lord, would be a good start.
For whoever shall call on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved and united in one great accord.
For when you have done this, old things pass away
For then you shall awaken to a glorious new day.
So don’t look back to the things of the past
But to Jesus, for you have found Him at last.
And be not ashamed of the gospel of old
But begin to change, shape and to mold
Into that person God made you to be
To give praise and glory to the Man from Galilee.
